Summary

ROUND FIVE – Cassius knew about the inequality Blacks faced and wanted to know why. Momma Bird warned them about talking in that manner in public. She recounted the practice of killing the smartest slaves because “they were the most dangerous” (129). Lucius felt he was smart but felt he hid it because he did not want to pose a threat. When he got a scholarship to a private Catholic school, he was afraid. Cassius refuses to let Lucius cry and urged him not to fear anything. Cassius walked Lucius to his new school the first day, saying that was the role of a friend. Lucius knew everyone was drawn to Cassius, but felt no one else knew him as well as Lucius. Though it was not something any of their peers did, Cassius said he loved Lucius because Lucius understood him.
