Author

The author remains anonymous through the course of the memoir. She does not name any of her family members like her son, her parents, or her brother. The author also intended to stay anonymous when she posted as Duchess Goldblatt. She allowed very few people to know her real identity.

Lyle helps to persuade the author to write about the experiences she has since she began writing posts as Duchess Goldblatt. The author created the Duchess when she decided she wanted to have a social media page, but wanted to remain anonymous. She hoped the page would distract her from the distress she was suffering as a result of her husband’s decision to get a divorce. The author discovered that Duchess not only provided her relief from her suffering, but also gave people a place to connect and find comfort from their struggles.
