Summary
In Chapter 21, even though lesbians do not like the author, they like Duchess, a reality that confuses the author. She wonders if the people who liked Duchess met the author in real life if they would recognize her.
In Chapter 22, Hacienda, the Duchess’ only child, is serving a life sentence for crimes against humanity. The author explains there are three reasons why Hacienda is in a prison and never getting out. First, she knew that Duchess had to be a mother because she gave motherly advice. The author knew that Duchess had to have a child who was separated from her to give her depth. The author also felt that the Duchess needed to have wounds that were raw to help her readers understand when the author’s own sadness seeped through into Duchess’ writing.
