Parts 18-20 Summary
Tristan is returned to the manor house where he serves as Nicolas' footstool through many long hours of dinner and conversation. Tristan listens to the conversation and learns what the rest of the masters and mistresses think of the slaves. Tristan realizes how lowly he has become.
After Tristan is released from the duty as a footstool, Mistress Lockley takes him to the Public Tents. Mistress Lockley pays ten pence so that Tristan may have his way with one of the princesses. Tristan greedily takes the princess as Mistress Lockley stand and watches. Tristan is forced to look at the mistress during sex. Afterward, Tristan wants to please Mistress Lockley but does not ask for fear of being laughed at or whipped.
Mistress Lockley takes Tristan back to the Inn where he retires to Nicolas' bedchamber.
