Fax Machine

Adina's fax machine is symbolic of stability. Throughout the novel, Adina relies on the fax machine for a sense of constancy and comfort. She knows that when she is lonely, hurt, or disappointed, she can turn to the machine. Sending and receiving faxes offers Adina the illusion of security.

Adina's notes are symbolic of meaning and purpose. Adina lives with the belief that she is an extraterrestrial meant to send messages to space about human behavior. This perceived mission therefore grants Adina's life worth and authenticates her sense of self.
