Summary
In Part 3, “Red Supergiant (Work),” Voyager 1 becomes “the farthest human-made object in space” (143). Adina imagines the voyager can “see the Red Lion Diner” where she works (143). Adina works the coveted Early Bird shift. She makes friends with the elderly patrons, particularly Lottie, Heather, Phyllis, and Melissa. Adina’s customers and coworkers start calling her Little One.
Two days a week, Adina takes classes at a satellite campus a few bus rides away (145). Adina continues sending faxes. One response from her superiors suggests that there are other reporters like her on Earth, but the superiors will not reveal who they are.
