Qian Wang
Qian Wang is the author of this memoir, as well as its primary subject. In this book, Qian recounts her childhood from ages five to eleven, during which time she and her parents faced significant challenges in their collective immigration journey. Qian was born in northern China. When she was five years old, her father relocated to America, where he worked for two years to raise money to bring his wife and daughter over. Qian was seven years old when she and her mother joined Qian’s father in New York City. Over the following four years, Qian and her parents struggled to adapt to life as undocumented immigrants in the United States.
They lived in extreme poverty in the United States, and they struggled with insufficient access to basic necessities, such as food and healthcare. Qian often felt scared and alienated in the United States...
