Summary

In Chapter 19, one of David’s pet dogs developed cancer and had to be euthanized. Around the same time, Nic became impossible to locate, although he was somewhere in California. David almost wished he could just forget about Nic. One day, David and Karen arrived home to find that someone had broken in and stolen belongings and money. They realized that it was Nic. David called a locksmith and had all of the locks on the house changed, and he reported the burglary to the local sheriff. Doing these things was painful for David. One day, David saw Nic drive by the house in his car. David started his own car and sped after Nic, but he was unable to catch him.
