Summary

In Chapter 9, David writes that he once took meth in college. Charles, one of David’s college friends, became addicted to drugs and died at the age of 40 due to his addictions. David then briefly writes about the history and composition of methamphetamine, which is a highly dangerous and highly addictive substance. Meth addiction is a fairly pervasive problem across the United States. Heavy use of the drug can cause a person to become manic, sleep-deprived, unpredictable, and even violent. David was extremely upset to learn that Nic had started using meth. Nic was no longer a minor, so David could not commit Nic to rehabilitation. Soon after Nic returned home, he disappeared again.
