Point of View
The narrative is written from the first-person perspective of the narrative’s protagonist, January. This is fitting as it is her story. While there is a lot going on in the narrative, The Beach Read is really about January’s journey of growth and she is moving from the protection of her parents and the view of the world they created for her to defining what is right, and not right, for her life. The first person perspective is especially well-done as it gets into January’s head as she deals with her discoveries about what it takes to be a mature adult and the tribulations that occur throughout the narrative.
