Summary
In "The Book Club," January goes to Pete’s bathroom and takes her wine with her. She drinks some wine while in the bathroom, considers her options, and decides not to leave. January exits the bathroom when she hears Sonya preparing to leave. Sonya leaves, and January rejoins the group. Pete tells her that Sonya had to leave, and January learns that they are waiting for another book club participant, which turns out to be Gus. His presence makes January think that the group is going to discuss his book. Pete offers Gus something to drink. His beverage choices include a White Russian or some of the wine January brought, which is still in her purse. He chooses a White Russian. January thinks the choice is typical of a writer like him.
