Summary
The second part, "When I Was Lost," consists of 15 days. On “Day One,” Ashley wakes up around noon and looks at her foot. She is shocked to see that she crushed two little toes, and several bones and a tendon are clearly visible. She rewraps her foot, stands up despite the pain, then finds a creek and drinks from it. Ashley starts to walk despite the tremendous pain because she does not want to shout for help. She has a desire to do everything on her own, just like her momma, and an inability to admit she was wrong, just like her dad, and she is not surprised that the two of them split up when she was a little kid.
