Chapter Three Summary

Chapter three begins with the Joker reading a newspaper and asking who the Holiday Killer is and singing "Winter Wonderland." He quickly rips the paper into thousands of tiny pieces and declares that he hates the song. It is next revealed that the Joker is robbing a family of all their Christmas presents and has them gagged and bound with Christmas lights.

The story then cuts to Gordon and Batman walking on Christmas Eve through Arkham Asylum, which is where Gotham houses the criminally insane. Gordon tells Batman that the Joker has escaped and robbed a family, but Batman tells Gordon that he already knows. Gordon notes that there are almost twice as many inmates in Arkham Asylum as when Batman appeared, but Batman denies the correlation has anything to do with his presence. Batman assures himself that Gotham needs him...
