Amy

Amy is the first person narrator and main character of the section "The Giant of Sarrià." In the narrative present, Amy is a single mother in her forties, living in the Sarrià municipality of Barcelona. She originally moved to Spain after falling in love with Pol. Shortly after getting married and getting pregnant, however, Amy ended their marriage. She believed that Pol was cheating on her. Six months after their daughter Mar's birth, the couple split up.

Amy lives in an apartment by herself and runs a small gift shop called Trinket. Her life is largely predictable and free of excitement. Then one night she awakes to the sound of crying. When she pursues the sound, she finds a handsome young Moroccan man crouched in the car park. She invites him into her house for tea.
