Summary
"Birds" takes place in the late 2030s, when floods again cause chaos in Bangkok. Pig, now a mom with a teenage son, prepares to meet with Mai, who is visiting from New York. Pig lives in the apartment that used to belong to Mai's parents; Mai let the apartment to her. As she gets ready, Pig feels ashamed of her appearance and loads makeup on to cover the face of "someone she doesn't want to recognize" (246).
Woon, Pig's son, has locked himself in his room for the past two weeks. Pig visited several psychiatrists to talk about Woon and also brought a doctor to the apartment to try and get him to leave his room. The doctor asked Pig if she wanted to have Woon, committed to a psychiatric hospital, but Pig wants to think about it. Pig tries to get Woon...
