Madge
Madge is a freeborn black woman from Tennessee with passion and ambition within her. She was raised by her mother, Sarah, and her two sisters, Berta and Polly, despite their pact to remain celibate and loyal to each other. Because of this, Madge was the mark of Sarah's shortcomings and a threat to their balanced trio. She was taught the healing practices of the sisters that dated back generations and learned that she has a special gift. Through touch, she is able to diagnose the exact ailment of another person, whether physical or emotional. Her herbal education allows her to prescribe the exact remedy for her patient's illness. Healing had always been what saved the sisters and their ancestors from the grips of sexist and racist society prior to the Civil War, but Madge intentionally creates a business plan that will earn her a living.
