Chapters 13 and 14 Summary

On July 7th, Mike has an evening that is reminiscent of a time when as a child he had such a high fever that he hallucinated. Mike has a waking dream of being part of three different selves. One self is with Jo, another with Mattie and the third is retrieving the old Selectric from Jo's studio. Each vision is vivid and detailed, filled with music that sounds like Sara Tidwell and her group, sexual contact, and innuendo involving Jo and Mattie and visions of death. He wakes the following morning, he finds himself on the floor in the upstairs hallway with the Selectric in his office and his feet dirty and stuck with leaves. He showers and then plugs in the typewriter, types in Chapter One, and waits for inspiration to take over.
