Chapters 11 and 12 Summary
Mike is heading to Jo's studio to look for the owls when a Sheriff's car pulls in to deliver a subpoena. Mike puts the subpoena in the house, and now the fridge magnets read 'help r', but Mike has already subconsciously arrived at that conclusion. He calls his publisher to get a recommendation for a custody lawyer. When John Storrow calls Mike, he listens to the whole story and has two pieces of advice. The first is to be one hundred percent honest when answering this subpoena. The second is to do whatever he has to in order to convince Mattie that she needs to accept Mike's help by way of John Storrow or lose her daughter.
Mike picks up the phone to call Mattie and in a quirk of timing, Mattie is calling him at exactly that moment, so instead...
