Chapters 9 and 10 Summary
The next morning Mike goes for a walk. He makes it as far as the Warrington's and the Sunset Bar before turning back. At the house again, he strips down and swims out to the float, and decides to spend the rest of the day cleaning his work area on the second floor. Upstairs, he feels the stifling heat and for the first time realizes the air conditioner isn't working. Just as he is leaving his office, he remembers a voice activated gadget given to him called a memo scriber and decides to use it to record the child's voice that evening if it comes again. He looks into Jo's nook across the hall and finds it has been emptied though her studio is just as he remembered it except for his old IBM Selectric typewriter sitting on her desk. Later...
