Chapters 7 and 8 Summary

On his first day back at Sara Laughs, Mike decides to drive to the Village Cafe for a burger for lunch. On his way there, he sees a young toddler walking down the middle of the road all alone. Worried, he pulls over and tries to ascertain where her mother is, just as a Scout comes down the road. The child call her Mattie and though she drives by at first, Mike manages to get her attention and she reverses back to him. She is grateful to a point of tears that her daughter is okay, and tries to explain to Mike that she had promised to take Kyra to the lake that afternoon.
