Andrew Yancy

Andres Yancy is a police officer in the Florida Keys and the protagonist of the novel. He was suspended after assaulting his girlfriend Bonnie’s husband when Yancy heard the man speaking ill of Bonnie. Yancy’s relationship with Bonnie ends after the assault. While he is not exactly repentant for attacking Bonnie’s husband, Yancy does understand the consequence of his actions. In order for the charges against Yancy to be dropped, Yancy must accept reassignment as a restaurant inspector.

After Yancy is tasked with transporting a severed arm to the morgue, Yancy becomes suspicious that a murder has taken place. Along with Rosa, a pathologist, Yancy begins to investigate in hopes that if he solves the crime, he will be reinstated at the police department. He begins a flirtation with Rosa, which develops into something more.
