Section 1 – What points of contrast in the personality of Elizabeth Holmes does the narrative develop in this section of the book?
The primary points of contrast are in her apparent altruism (that is: her desire to help others), and her similarly apparent ambition, sense of control, and lack of integrity. The former is described in the narration of Elizabeth’s history, and of her goals for her product and her company; the latter is found in the description of her treatment of Henry Mosley, and also in the descriptions of her childhood competitiveness and ambition.
Section 2 – A fundamental difference between the work and products promoted by Apple, and the work and products promoted by Theranos, later develops into the main reason for concern about Theranos and its failings. What is that fundamental difference? Consider the fundamental nature of the products of the two companies, and the relationship of those products to the lives of individuals making use of them.
