Summary
Chapter 23 - “Damage Control”:
Carreyrou writes that at the same time as her lawyers are trying to get the Journal to back down, Holmes is talking with Rupert Murdoch, the wealthy media mogul who owns the Journal. She not only talks him into making the largest financial investment he has made in a company other than his own, but she also attempts to get him to kill the Theranos story. Murdoch refuses.
Meanwhile, Carreyrou continues to build that story, with ongoing help from Alan Beam and Erika Cheung. Tyler Shultz, he added, remained silent, but there was no suggestion from Theranos that he had given in, so Carreyrou remained convinced that Tyler’s silence was more about self-restraint than about being restrained by Theranos. Boies continues to send threatening letters to the Journal and other sources, eventually having another meeting with Carreyrou...
