Summary
Chapter 4 - “Goodbye East Paly”:
This chapter begins with a description of Theranos’ move from a less desirable Silicon Valley location (nicknamed East Paly) to one with a better reputation and more status. Complications with the move, driven by Elizabeth’s obsessive determination to control everything that goes on at Theranos, eventually lead Matt Bissell, her head of IT and security, to quit. The move to the office pleased Aaron Moore, a former friend of Ana Arriola, who took some of the prototype Edisons out for informal tests and realized just how many problems there were with them – “the overall impression was that of an eighth-grade science project” (46). When he reveals his concerns to Tony and Elizabeth, they are dismissed.
Meanwhile, sales reps Todd Surdey and Susan DiGiamo each develop their own concerns about the untested, unreliable product they are being asked...
