Anna
The novel originates from Anna's experience of the Academy Awards. Transplanted from New York to Los Angeles, Anna is classier and more demure than her friends. She is described several times as "old money" and as being a "WASP" or White Anglo-Saxon Protestant. The differences in her character can be seen through her actions. She does not make a move on her friend Cyn's boyfriend, even when he seems to want her. She hesitates to go on the trip to Las Vegas, not pleased to be skipping the class trip. However, as with the other characters in the novel, she is also defined by what she wants: here, this is Ben, her ex-boyfriend who goes to Princeton. Anna is further characterized by her intelligence, as she has been accepted early-decision at Yale. Finally, she is distinguished by her clothing.
