Part XI, P. 797 to P. 891 Summary
Mixtli leaves Tenochtítlan with a fully armed group of warriors. In the town of Coátzacoálcos, Mixtli meets a slave girl who brings him water, and impresses him with her ambition and arrogance. Mixtli meets with the Maya chief, known as the Lord Mother. The Spaniards are white men that are hairier, and a bit taller than the Mexíca. The chief also comments that the men are very smelly and refuse to bathe. After they are forced to bathe, Mixtli is able to attempt to converse with them and begins to learn Spanish. Mixtli finds out that the Spaniards believe in one God and a Holy Lady. This process of learning is disrupted when the women who lay with the Spaniards get smallpox and die.
