Mixtli marches towards Tenochtítlan along with Béu Ribé, who agrees to return with him. The soldier "Angry with Everybody" makes up a story that unknown people massacred the civilians. Mixtli agrees to marry Beu Ribe and then goes back to his wandering journeys. Mixtli oddly refuses to consummate the marriage. He goes looking for the route of his Aztecatl ancestors before they settled in the Lake region. Mixtli goes to a town whose name means "Where the Water Gushes," which is on the legendary route. Mixtli talks to the old wise men of this Otomite town but cannot find out anything.
