Ba Sing Se

Ba Sing Se is the capital of the Earth Kingdom and one of the largest cities in the Avatar world. As Kyoshi ventures away from the Earth Kingdom, she always dreams of returning and feeling at home and at peace again. The name “Ba Sing Se” means impenetrable city, epitomized by the enormous walls that surround the city and deter potential invaders.

The Fire Nation

The Fire Nation is the setting that occupies a large portion of the novel and highlights Kyoshi’s development as an Avatar. She does not feel comfortable attending state functions and assuming the “peacemaker” role that the Avatar demands. She feels out of place and must develop her confidence.
