Summary

After finding Lao Ge, the group heads to Hujiang, a city entirely run and populated by members of the daofei. The group runs into a well-dressed man who Lek and Kirima address as Uncle Mok with a great deal of reverence and respect. Kirima introduces him as Mok the Accountant, the “elder” of the Flying Opera Company. Kyoshi wonders why the man was not listed in her journal. Kyoshi watches how Mok treats the group like petulant children while they cow in respect. After Mok leaves, Kirima explains that, following Jesa’s death, her bison left the group and they found themselves stuck and indebted. In order to keep going, they agreed to accept Mok and his group, the Autumn Bloom, as their elders, in exchange for more money and supplies
