Summary

Early the next morning, Rangi wakes Kyoshi up and informs her that she is going to start training her in firebending. Kyoshi tells Rangi that she wants to try more aggressive firebending techniques, but Rangi warns her that she first has to master controlling the fire itself and suppressing it. Kyoshi ignores Rangi and tries to firebend anyway, but her flames are erratic and wild, as opposed to controlled and powerful like Rangi’s. Back at camp with the others, while discussing some aspects of her childhood, Kyoshi makes a backhanded insult directed toward her parents, which upsets Lek. Kirima explains that Lek had been an abandoned orphan when Jesa and Hark found him and took him in, and he quickly grew to worship them.
