Union
The Union becomes Clara’s opportunity to excel within America society and where she, alongside many others, confront the myriad blockades places against her in her attempt at freedom from exploitation. The Union is the place where Clara expands and articulates her opinions on the politics and protection of the worker, and where she makes lasting connections with those who support her in her ventures for social justice, Pauline and Joe. Within the union, the gender divide that is common in all other aspects of American life is diluted here, and sexism is compromised for the sake of the union work. Working men and women are bound together by their mutual struggle and fight for worker’s rights, and it is beneficial for the women to fight for general labor rights alongside the men who seek liberty for themselves.
