Chapter 12: Places We Go When We Feel Wronged:
Anger - Brown states that anger is a “full-contact” (220) emotion which needs to be regulated in order to avoid health and psychiatric problems (A person who doesn’t regulate becomes “exhausted and sick” (224)). Brown’s work with research participants has made her to call into question whether or not anger is a primary emotion, as she has witnessed in most cases that when her participants feel anger they also feel other things like “betrayal, fear, grief, injustice, shame, [and] vulnerability” (221). Brown argues that of the 87 emotions in her book “more than twenty of them are likely to present as anger or with anger” (223).
