Chapter 4: Places We Go When It's Beyond Us:
Awe and Wonder - In this section, Brown differentiates between awe and wonder. Awe, Brown explains, is felt when a person experiences an event or a vision that overwhelms them with enchantment and fills them with the desire to “stand back and observe” (58). Wonder, on the other hand, “fuels our passion for explanation and learning” (59). With awe a person desires to be passive in order to let the source of awe shine; with wonder, a person desires to find a source of knowledge that will inform them of the source of the incredible feeling.
