Chapters 16-20 Summary
In chapter 16, Canon Pennyfather wakes in a strange room. After a while, a woman comes into the room and explains that she and her husband found him lying in the street and assumed he had been hit by a car. Afraid he had been drinking and calling the police would ruin his reputation, they decided against calling the police. They did, however, call a local man who was once a doctor to check his wounds and he diagnosed a concussion. In chapter 17, Father speaks with his boss, the Assistant Commissioner of Scotland Yard. Father outlines his case thus far, emphasizing the appearance of the sports car at all the crimes and its possible connection to Malinowski and Bertram's.
