Section 6: Chapters 7 and 8 Summary
In Chapter 7, Nadira notes that Bangladeshis always keep going and try to do the right thing. She tells about Naseem, Abba's older brother, who was killed when he joined the Mukti Bahini, a group of freedom fighters. When Abba saw Ma at a Bengali New Year fair, he saw the shy, fearless girl he must marry, and he refused to eat until his father arranged their marriage. It was good for Abba to marry someone who was not afraid since he believes in doing the right thing, and this is what he taught his daughters, though it was difficult to know what the right thing was after they came to America. Becoming invisible, Abba told them the most important thing was not to stick out, but Nadira believes it hurt him to hide so much.
