On Tuesday morning, Aisha and Nadira return to Flushing High, pretending nothing has happened. Mr. Friedlander, a school counselor, approaches the girls to inform Aisha that he has arranged a college interview for her at Barnard, but when he suggests calling her later to schedule it, she asks him to send her a note instead, lying that their phone is broken since they no longer live at home. On Nadira's way to Ali-uncle's shop after school, she is approached by Tareq, a local hoodlum, who has heard of Abba's trouble and suggests he can sell her a green card. Ali-uncle is glad to see Nadira, but he makes her nervous as he constantly mutters that Abba will be alright.
