Summary
In Chapter 20, Peter is in rehab while Kate and the kids try to continue their lives without him. The rehab facility discharges Peter after 33 days and he returns home, but the relationship between him and Kate feels different. When she picks him up, Kate finds it difficult to even hug him. She cannot look at him in the face. Peter tells Kate he wants to be a history teacher. He applies at a Catholic school and gets the job. To Kate, it seems as though Peter has to make a concerted effort at home. Just before Peter starts his teaching job, he relapses. He goes to a bar and has two beers. Then he goes to the bar a second night. A third time he buys mini bottles of liquor, drinks them at home and lies to Kate. Kate finds out the truth...
