Summary
Chapter 14 returns to the lives of Peter and Kate. Peter excelled in college and began giving other kids on the track team advice, almost acting like the coach. He and Kate had picked up right where they left off when they start meeting. They agree to put the past behind them and have fun together. They rarely talk about the day the shooting happened, except one time when Peter says he believes his mother was a victim too. Kate, however, feels almost no sympathy for Anne Stanhope. “She shot him because she hated me,” Kate says (234). Peter responds by saying, “It’s quite a bit more complicated than that” (234).
Peter and Kate graduate from college. They have hardly dealt with the issue of their families. Peter moves in with George and George’s new girlfriend for the summer because he cannot figure out...
