Summary
In Chapter 10, the Gleesons prepare for Kate’s high school graduation. Francis suggests they throw a party. It has been four years and although he never went back to work, Francis Gleeson has mostly recovered. He shovels snow in the winter, mows the lawn in the summer and helps around the house. But the relationship between him and Lena has never fully recovered, at least not their sex life. The couple has not slept together in two years, Keane reveals. “But now, he could see, she’d gotten too used to being the caretaker and him patient,” Keane writes (166). Lena has a full-time job at an insurance company so Francis spends most of his days alone in the house. He begins taking more and more pain killers.
