Summary

Chapter 6 picks up with Peter and Brian in Queens, where they are living with Brian’s brother George in a small apartment. George’s wife Brenda left him because he drank too much and so the apartment is a bachelor pad. They eat on paper plates in the living room while watching television. Their old house in Gillam was sold to pay for legal fees and medical bills for Francis Gleeson, who survived being shot in the face by Anne Stanhope. A court convicted Anne Stanhope and then committed her to a mental hospital in upstate New York. Although some officers thought Stanhope should lose his job, supervisors put him on modified duty and then on traffic. Eventually he can no longer stand to work traffic and quits his job.
