Darl - Chapter 57 Summary

Darl, laughing insanely, is put on a train by plainclothes policemen. While the train leaves, Darl sees his family sitting in their wagon eating bananas. Then, at the end of the journey, he finds himself in a cage in Jackson.

Darl - Chapter 57 Analysis

Darl talks to himself and refers to himself as though he is another person entirely. This symbolizes the fact that his mind has completely fractured. He says that Darl is his brother, but Darl is the narrator here. It seems that his personality has split entirely in two.
