Whitfield - Chapter 41 Summary
Returning to a time much earlier in the story, Whitfield hears that Addie is dying. Shocked at the news, he prays fervently, and God tells him to confess to Anse and ask his forgiveness. So he rides through the ford near the washed out bridge and on to the Bundrens,' arriving just in time to take part in the funeral.
Whitfield - Chapter 41 Analysis
Whitfield is Jewel's father; the man with whom Addie had an actually loving relationship.
The line "God's grace upon this house" (179) is a helpful reminder of who Whitfield was in Chapter 20.
