Darl - Chapter 10 Summary

Darl and Jewel are in the wagon on the way to their paying job. Darl asks Jewel if he realizes their mother is dying, but Jewel does not respond. Then Darl's thoughts turn to the fact that Dewey Dell wants Addie to die so that she can leave the farm. After pondering this, Darl again asks Jewel if he knows that Addie is dying.

Darl - Chapter 10 Analysis

Darl refers to Addie Bundren as though she is not his mother, but only the mother of Jewel and Dewey Dell. This shows that he does not have a particularly strong attachment to her.
