Act 2, Scenes 8, 9, and 10 Summary

Scene 8 - This scene is set in Mike's loft. As he works on a canvas, Wyler comes in. He first says that he came by because he just happened to be in the neighborhood, and then he admits that he came by on purpose because he feels lost. He talks about just wanting to connect with people through his work but he has also realized that ultimately people are alone. Wyler asks why it's so wrong to want to try to cure that in some way. Mike hints that he knows how difficult that is and then says that what else is difficult is painting ears, with all their little pockets of light and shadow. He says he keeps working on them, and he is getting better. Wyler asks why he keeps trying. Mike says if he gets it...
