Summary
In Chapter 12, Genie continues to berate himself for killing the bird, and he writes questions in his notebook. Several questions revolve around the dead bird, including whether he is now a “bird murderer” (213). Genie and Ernie come up with a plan to rise very early in order to dispose of the dead bird. Genie does not sleep at all and the boys have an argument over who is actually going to touch the dead bird. Eventually, Ernie agrees to move the bird and Genie wraps Ernie's hands with toilet paper, using a whole roll so that Ernie's hands look like mummies. Ernie manages to get the bird outside before he drops it, saying he could not hold it any longer.
