Summary
In Chapter 3, Ernie and Genie are in an argument over whether it is really hotter in the country or if Genie is imagining it. Genie goes inside where Grandma offers him iced tea. Grandpop insists on getting it himself and Grandma goes outside. Genie sees that Grandpop has a gun tucked into the waistband of his pants. Genie is further amazed when Grandpop fills a jar with tea, without spilling any. Grandpop calls Genie “Little Wood,” a nickname that lasts the entire month of his visit. Grandpop invites Genie to ask any question on his mind. Genie hesitates, then decides to ask his questions. Grandpop answers each, revealing that he went blind from glaucoma 20 years earlier.
