Summary

In Chapter 20, Lila reminds herself that she is not going on a date, but this evening reminds her of going out with Derek shortly after her return to Shady Palms. Lila had been chaffing under the constant scrutiny of her family. She had gone out with him a couple times before discovering the articles he had been writing. No one knew about those dates except Adeena. Lila chooses an outfit she considers “Casual but cute,” then puts on the necklace given to her by her parents. The chain includes links from Rosie's bracelet making it a symbol of the most important adults in her young life. She seldom takes it off. Janet calls. She says she has information that could help Lila. They agree to meet for lunch the next day.
