Talia

At the beginning of the novel, Talia is a young girl of thirteen. Arrows of the Queen is about Talia's three years in Herald training, from the time she is thirteen until she is sixteen.

Talia's young life is spent at a restricted and closed in community called Sensholding. In Hold life, the men dominate the culture and have several wives and many children. There is very little freedom and the role of women and girls is strictly defined. Talia does not fit well into this atmosphere of no freedom. She learns to read and write, use some of the boy's weapons and takes every possible moment to read what few books she can find.

Talia is not like the other girls, and the wives of her father do not know how to work with her. Only a few of the wives treat her with kindness, and Talia...
