Chapter 12 Summary

As Talia and Kris hear petitions on a beautiful autumn day, a small boy brings a letter from his grandfather about a feud and a poisoned well. When Kris disagrees with Talia's desire to handle the situation immediately, she realizes that he is intentionally arguing with her in an attempt to manipulate her emotions, and Kris admits it and can now stop since she has figured it out. Talia does not use her Gift to settle the dispute because she is unsure about the ethics of manipulating people's emotions, and Kris worries that Talia will freeze if an emergency arises and the only way for her to deal with it is to use her Gift.
