Chapter 3 Summary

Talia wakes late with the desire to return to sleep, but she is plagued with the feeling of duty. As she prepares to bathe, she finds a note on her door from Kyril stating that due to an emergency on the Northern Border, her internship with Kris will begin tomorrow. Talia bathes and consults with Rolan who reassures her before seeking Kyril. Kyril is pleased to see that Talia looks alert, and though he does not understand her reputation as a sweet but simple creature, he realizes that being underestimated may work to Talia's advantage. Though the Forest of Sorrows protects the Northern Border from potential for trouble, Kyril does not like to leave the Border Sectors without a Herald for long, because the people already feel isolated and need to know that they are important to the kingdom.
